Surrey awards $4M contract for Crescent Beach road, drainage work

Road improvements to two of Crescent Beach’s key routes are to get underway next month, following council approval of a $3.99-million contract for the work.

According to a corporate report, “parking and walking enhancements” are to be completed by Richco Contracting Ltd. at Beecher Street and McKenzie Avenue, as well as on Sullivan Street from Kidd Road to the beach.

The project also includes drainage and road improvements on Sullivan Street (from McBride Avenue to 12101 Sullivan St.) and McBride Avenue (from Sullivan Street to Adams Lane). The work is the final phase of improvements in the neighbourhood identified to complete under the city’s Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund program; part of efforts to reduce Surrey’s vulnerability to coastal flooding and sea-level rise.

The contract includes sectional road closures during construction hours (permitted Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.) to facilitate the work, the report notes. As well, consultants will monitor and screen excavated soils for potential archeological features.

The road improvements along Beecher are expected to be complete this summer. According to the report, Richco has agreed to complete the other work by spring of next year.
